Prag

Universität in Mitteleuropa.

If you enjoy following in the footsteps of the monarchy, then Prague will be an important city to visit. A settlement had been known to exist since the Palaeolithic age. We know of fortifications that had been built under the Premyslide Dynasty. In the Middle Ages, Prague reached its zenith under the House of Luxembourg. Charles IV founded the first university in Central Europe. Many churches and palaces testify to the reign of Rudolph II. The Thirty Years’ War also left its marks. In the 18th century, Maria Theresia continued construction of a number of buildings. Prague experienced a new revival in the 19th (20th) century, becoming an important centre for artists such as Max Brod, Franz Werfel and Franz Kafka. After WW II, the Communist Period left its many marks on the city. Today, Prague has regained its former glory. Its romantic places encourage visitors to remain.
